To comment on Clarisse’s 9th week in the race, Pierre-Emmanuel Hérissé, Technical Director of Team Banque Populaire, looks back on her rounding of Cape Horn and the nightmarish conditions she faced at the end of her Pacific crossing.
Clarisse rounded Cape Horn on January 5th, a further major milestone in this round-the-world race. If this third and last of the ‘great capes’ has become a symbol of deliverance to the extent it officially marks the end of the Pacific crossing and the return to less isolated regions, Clarisse is still in the process of sailing through the roaring fifties.
Although she has now left the southern seas and is moving north, she must still face for several more days the strong winds and conditions prevailing in the Deep South. The path to Les Sables d’Olonne remains long and full of dangers.
