On World Cancer Day, Groupe BPCE hosted the annual conference of the Cancer@Work association for the second time.
Created in 2012, the Cancer@Work association and its member companies have been working for the past 10 years to enable people to speak more freely about cancer, change how people think about this disease, and help cancer sufferers to stay in their jobs. As we were reminded by the speakers at the conference, reconciling disease with work is a source of human, social, and economic value creation. Allowing employees suffering from cancer to continue their professional lives is not only a factor in their healing process but also a way for companies to leverage their performance. Absenteeism is reduced and the abilities developed by cancer sufferers to face up to their situation are beneficial to the company. 77% of working people also believe that job retention strengthens team cohesion and commitment (Cancer@Work 2016 Barometer survey).
Today Cancer@Work runs a network of approximately 100 companies mobilized to build a more inclusive and responsible model that enables people with cancer to pursue their professional careers.
In 2016, Groupe BPCE, at the initiative of female employees suffering from cancer, joined the Cancer@Work association. 24 Group entities* are currently members and, as such, are actively committed to making the issue of cancer and chronic illness a more fully integrated aspect of their human resources policies and managerial practices. Five of them have also obtained the Cancer@Work label in recognition of the strength of their commitment.
