For its first competitive outing, the new maxi-trimaran and its skipper duo Armel Le Cléac’h and Kevin Escoffier triumphed in the Ultim Azimuth Challenge this weekend in just over 21 hours of sailing.
Thanks to this race, the pair of skippers due to compete in the forthcoming Transat Jacques Vabre was able to test the Maxi Banque Populaire XI in regatta mode and enhance their automatic reflexes in preparation for the “Coffee Route” race scheduled to start in Le Havre on November 7. A victory that bodes well for the future!
“Our speed was good and the boat felt fine. It was a minor event, but it’s one more box ticked on the to-do list as we prepare for the Transat Jacques Vabre,” said Armel. And Kevin confirmed: “Can’t wait to get back into racing, the boat is really fantastic!”
Next week, the two skippers will be in Port-la-Forêt to fine-tune their preparations and their training.
