As the 33 competitors set off on their single-handed, non-stop round-the-world race, Armel Le Cléac’h, winner of the previous Vendée Globe, gives his view of the early stages in the race.
Among the competitors, Clarisse Crémer set sail on her first Vendée Globe at the helm of Mono Banque Populaire X. Armel knows her well since he was her “coach” as she prepared for the race.
Despite the fact that her training was disrupted by the health crisis and the weather conditions were inclement in the first few days, Armel believes that his trainee has the potential to finish among the top 10. Clarisse’s main goal however is just to finish, which would in itself be a fine achievement.
Back at home on land, as Armel keeps track of the day-to-day progression of the race, he is also working on the construction of his next boat: the Ultim Banque Populaire XI due to be launched in April 2021 and scheduled to take part in next year’s Transat Jacques Vabre.
