Supporting our clients in their sustainable growth strategies

Natixis CIB positions itself at the heart of its strategy to support its borrower, issuer, and investor clients through various stages of their transition. Its goal is to contribute to the decarbonization of the global economy by supporting all of its clients— including those from the most carbon-intensive sectors (fossil fuels, construction, mining)— whose transition paths are robust, credible, and ambitious.

Natixis CIB has been committed for over ten years to this approach of reducing its impact on the environment and climate change. Its ambition is to continue aligning its financing portfolios with the trajectory of carbon neutrality by 2050 by leveraging all transition tools to achieve this objective. To this end, the bank has developed since 2018 the Green Weighting Factor (GWF) tool that allows it to measure and manage the climate impact of its financing portfolio.

Natixis CIB acts as a preferred financial partner and advisor to its clients in the following situations:

  • The withdrawal or divestment from the most greenhouse gas-emitting activities
  • Diversifying their activities to increase the share of sustainable ones
  • Diversifying their activities to increase the share of those contributing to the transition (avoided emissions)
  • The intrinsic decarbonization of industrial supply and production processes
  • Carbon sequestration (nature-based solutions or technological solutions used after implementing previous decarbonization levers)
  • Governance and consideration of transition issues in their management.

Driving transition through tailored solutions

Natixis CIB develops instruments such as “Social loans/bonds,” which generate positive social impact in France and internationally, supporting local economies, access to public services, and the health and elderly care sectors. Specifically, this translates into financing essential infrastructure, access to social housing, improving healthcare services, and strengthening the capacities of development banks to achieve the SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations). These positive impacts target regions such as Île-de-France, Wallonia, and Senegal, but also more broadly Europe and developing countries.

Natixis CIB supports its clients in the “social” labeling of their financing (bonds or loans) according to the “Social Bonds Principles” of the ICMA (International Capital Market Association) and the “Social Loan Principles” of the LMA (Loan Market Association).

This strategy relies on a robust organization and dedicated cross-functional expert teams, partners across all of the bank’s businesses, in France and internationally:

  • The Green & Sustainable Hub (GSH), which brings together experts in sustainable finance and ensures the integrity of products in green and sustainable finance since 2017.
  • The Energy Transition & Natural Resources (ETNR) team, created in 2020, gathers experts in emerging technologies supporting the low-carbon transition. In October 2024, the team also launched a new initiative to develop sectors related to food, agriculture, and natural capital.
