The French women win the Europe Cup and achieve an incredible double after claiming the World Cup in June.
For the third time in its history, the French women’s 3×3 basketball team has been crowned European champions. Already reigning world champions, the French women confirmed their top-ranking position in Graz (Austria) and, thanks to this new medal, become the most successful women’s team in the history of the Europe Cup championships.
After putting up an impressive performance in the group stages, the teammates of Laëtitia Guapo, a player sponsored by the Caisse d’Epargne d’Auvergne et du Limousin, confirmed their physical form and technical superiority in the quarterfinals by brushing aside Lithuania, the world’s fourth-ranked nation, before going on to provide a masterclass performance in their semifinals match against Spain, the reigning European champions (21-11). In the finals, the French women met the Netherlands in a remake of the 2018 edition of the championships and rounded off the marathon day with a resounding 21-14 victory.
This new triumph enabled the French women’s 3×3 basketball team to recover its title of European champion that it won in 2018 and to continue adding to its collection of medals. It also represents a new entry to what has become an impressive track record with four European podiums in a row (gold in 2018 and 2019, bronze in 2021, gold in 2022) and four world medals (silver in 2012, bronze in 2018 and 2019, gold in 2022). The French women can even dream of a triple crown in the final tournament of the FIBA 3×3 Women’s Series international circuit to be held shortly in Romania on September 17 and 18.
As a partner of the French Basketball Federation since 2014 and a major supporter of 3×3 basketball since 2019, the Caisse d’Epargne has been supporting the development of this new Olympic discipline on a daily basis, notably via the Pacte Utile (‘Useful Pact’) and its commitment to the renovation and construction of 3×3 basketball courts throughout France.
Groupe BPCE and its companies, actively committed to all the different players in the sports economy and Premium Partners of the Olympic & Paralympic Games Paris 2024, also support nearly two hundred athletes and para-athletes from all over France as they prepare not only for their upcoming sporting competitions but also for their future professional careers.
