BPCE announces a 7% stake in Spain’s fourth-largest bank, its intention to join its Board of Directors and the exploration of industrial cooperation initiatives.

BPCE is taking a new step in the execution of its Vision 2030 plan through a strategic investment in Banco Sabadell. This is a friendly initiative, discussed with the management of the Spanish bank.The transaction has three components:

  • a 7% stake in Sabadell— a strong and high-performing Spanish bank, the country’s fourth-largest bank and a leading provider of services to SMEs—with the possibility of subsequently increasing our stake to up to 9.9%;
  • our intention to play an active role in Sabadell’s governance by securing a seat on its Board of Directors*;
  • the exploration of industrial cooperation initiatives across the various business areas where BPCE’s expertise can make a meaningful contribution to its growth: corporate and investment banking, equipment financing, consumer finance and cross-border activities, serving BPCE and Sabadell clients.

Following BPCE’s acquisitions of BPCE Equipment Solutions and then novobanco, this partnership is part of a broader strategic drive to develop and diversify our business in Europe. It will enable the Group to strengthen its presence in an attractive and dynamic Spanish economy, where it has already had a strong foothold for around 30 years through several business lines and entities.

A new phase of discussions with Sabadell will now begin, with a view to further developing the proposed industrial cooperation initiatives next year and preparing for their implementation in 2027.
