Despite a forced stop in Lorient, the skipper of the Maxi Banque Populaire XI crossed the finish line on Sunday. A demonstration of the strength of a tightly-knit team.
Armel arrived at Pointe-à-Pitre at 08:04 (local time), coming in 7th position in the race after sailing for a total of 10 days, 22 hours, 49 minutes and 24 seconds.
After his boat suffered damage on Thursday, November 10, one day after setting sail from France, the boat was given a check-over in Lorient, the fin under the keel of the boat was replaced and the impacts on the hull were mended. 36 hours later, Armel set sail once again and was back in the race. “We managed to set off again. It was an immense challenge accepted by the whole team. I could have gone home and given up the race but I really wanted to set sail again and write another chapter for the Team and for Banque Populaire,” explained Armel.
Sharing this adventure to the very end demonstrates the commitment and determination of both the skipper and the Banque Populaire Team.
