As part of its VISION 2030 strategic plan, Groupe BPCE had set the ambition of supporting the protection of 30 water- and forest-related ecosystems by the end of 2026. Today, thanks to the collective mobilization of its companies, the group has not only met but exceeded this goal, with 45 local natural heritage restoration projects supported throughout France and in the regions of the world where we operate.

A concrete approach and a collective mobilization

In the face of biodiversity decline and as a complement to its approach of supporting its clients through the challenges of transitions, Groupe BPCE has implemented a concrete strategy to contribute to the protection of local natural heritage. This initiative, driven by the Banques Populaires, the Caisses d’Epargne, Natixis, and Palatine, is part of the VISION 2030 strategic plan.

A rigorous approach supported by a scientific committee

To ensure the relevance and effectiveness of each action, the initiative is supported by a scientific committee composed of four independent experts—specialists in water, forest, ocean, and biodiversity issues—as well as two specialized institutions: the Conservatoires d’espaces naturels (Natural Area Conservancies) and Voies navigables de France (French Waterways Authority).

Their role is to evaluate the value and robustness of the proposed projects based on specific criteria and indicators. The scientific committee specifically examines the relevance of the stated objectives, the soundness of the proposed action plan, and the concrete benefits for biodiversity and the environment.

Acting locally in the heart of the territories

The implementation and monitoring of the projects are entrusted to local managers.

From Posidonia seagrass beds in the Mediterranean to the restoration of wet heathlands in Nouvelle-Aquitaine, and the adaptation and diversification of forest plots in the Vercors massif, the supported projects are as varied as the territories that host them. These 45 projects illustrate the mobilization of the Group’s companies to contribute to the preservation of our common natural heritage.

« This initiative illustrates our ambition to make impact accessible to all, by massively raising our clients' awareness of the challenges of transitions and by implementing solutions that are as close as possible to their needs. »
