Buyers and CSR stakeholders join forces to reduce Groupe BPCE’s carbon footprint

For the first time, BPCE Achats is mobilizing the Procurement and CSR functions around the same theme of Responsible Procurement.

In line with BPCE 2024, the Group’s new strategic plan, Groupe BPCE is committed to making a 15% reduction in the CO₂ emissions generated by its own in-house operations, and to do so by 2024. To help achieve this target, BPCE Achats, an economic interest grouping (EIG) serving the Banques Populaires, Caisses d’Epargne and the Group’s principal subsidiaries, decided in a conference plenary session on November 24 to mobilize the Procurement and CSR functions around the same theme of Responsible Procurement. 

CSR in a supply chain context: a real lever for enhanced performance 

The development of impact procurement, the monitoring of suppliers’ carbon performance, support for their energy transition projects, and the creation of appropriate CSR questionnaires in call-for-tender processes… are just some of the ways in which we can generate synergies between the two functions and increase exchanges and the sharing of best practices between them and, in so doing, speed up our drive to reduce the Group’s carbon impact. At the same time, the Group’s Procurement function intends to continue its transformation in line with the major orientations inherent in the pursuit of Responsible Purchasing: social inclusion, the local economy, professional ethics, and commitment to society at large. Initiatives in this area have already been launched.

Some initiatives taken at a regional level:

• Creation of a three-way Procurement-CSR-Disability Policy in Banque Populaire Méditerranée
• Participation of CSR officers in Procurement Committee meetings of Banque Populaire Alsace Loraine Champagne
• Design and analysis of CSR questionnaires for suppliers in the Caisse d’Epargne Ile de France
• Development of a CSR questionnaire on responsible digital technology at BPCE IT
