Just a few weeks before the Tokyo 2020 opening ceremonies, the excitement is becoming increasingly palpable!
For the first time in the history of the French teams, 4 flag bearers will be chosen to lead the entire French delegation at Tokyo. No fewer than 19 athletes have applied to succeed Teddy Riner (judo) and Michaël Jeremiasz (para-tennis) who carried out this role in the 2016 Rio Olympics.
The general public will be choosing a pair of Paralympic athletes in a vote open until June 30th. The 7 candidates in the running include Sandrine Martinet, sponsored by Banque Populaire Bourgogne-Franche Comté. A gold medalist in Rio and double silver medalist in Athens and Beijing in para-judo, this exceptional 38-year-old, who’s a physiotherapist by profession, will try to garner the largest number of votes. Would you like to support Sandrine? Do you want to give greater visibility to sport in general and to Paralympic athletes in particular?
The Olympic athletes, on the other hand, will be appointed by their peers, the 59 ‘ambassadors’ chosen by the federations concerned. Among the candidates for this prestigious role, two athletes enjoy the support of the Group’s companies under the aegis of the Performance Pact: Charline Picon in windsurfing (Banque Populaire Aquitaine Centre Atlantique) and Maxime Beaumont in canoeing (Banque Populaire du Nord). In addition to these athletes, Johanne Defay and Sandrine Gruda are also covered by the Group’s partnership with the surfing and basketball federations. The four winners will be announced in July. In the meantime, vote for Sandrine Martinet!
As a partner of the French Olympic & Paralympic team and actively committed to all members of the world of sport, the Group is proud to provide its day-to-day support and sponsorship throughout France to more than one hundred top-level confirmed or promising French athletes not only as they prepare for their different sporting events but also in the development of their professional projects.
