Groupe BPCE is experimenting with the river-based collection of its daily professional waste as part of the Tri en Seine initiative in Paris. This experiment aligns with the priorities of Groupe BPCE’s strategic project, VISION 2030, which aims to enhance its positive impact in local communities.

From March 10 to 21, 2025, several companies located in the 12th and 13th arrondissements of Paris, including Groupe BPCE, are pooling their resources for the collection and transport of their professional waste (paper, cardboard, and non-hazardous industrial waste known as DIB) via the Seine as part of the Tri en Seine initiative.

Designed by Groupe BPCE, the public establishment Eau de Paris, the company Urban Station (RATP), and the City of Paris, this innovative service replaces garbage trucks with electric vehicles for collection, followed by the transport of waste to the recycling center in Gennevilliers in the Hauts-de-Seine via a barge. The 11 days of experimentation will allow for testing the efficiency and feasibility of the system, with the goal of ultimately providing a sustainable ecological alternative to current practices.

A local solution with a global impact

In terms of carbon footprint, using the river for waste transport emits less CO2 per ton-kilometer than road transport. This method helps reduce road traffic, thereby contributing to improved air quality and decreased noise pollution.
