Four months after Tokyo, the Olympic champions are setting off to win a new crown in the World Cup in Spain.
We’re off again! After winning their two pre-tournament friendly matches last week, the French women’s handball team will begin their World Championship this Friday, December 3, in the city of Granollers. With a total of 32 teams in the competition, this World Cup will be the biggest women’s handball event ever organized!
After a first match against Angola, a three-times African champion and current title-holder and initial opponent calling for the greatest possible vigilance and a fully-mobilized team, the French women will then meet Montenegro and Slovenia in the preliminary round.
The players coached by Olivier Krumbholz are aiming to finish among the top three teams in their group to allow them to move on to the main round.
In search of a new title for their track-record of success, the French women hope to follow in the steps of the Dutch women’s team – the defending champions who won the World Championships two years ago – and to win the World Cup for the third time, after 2003 and 2017. If they take the World Cup after their Olympic Gold, the women handball players will join the French men’s team that won gold in Beijing in 2008 and the World Cup in Croatia in 2009.
The Caisse d’Epargne, which has been a partner of the French Handball Federation since January 2015, will be the leading supporter of the French team throughout the competition. And to make sure you don’t miss out on any of the action, follow the guide !
