For more than 125 years, Banque Populaire Auvergne Rhône Alpes (BPAURA) has been providing its clientele of private individuals, artisans, small retailers, farmers, self-employed professionals, and business organizations with the support of its expertise in banking and insurance. The corporate purpose of this regional cooperative bank, whose capital is owned by its 381,000 cooperative shareholders, is “to build a sustainable and responsible future alongside the men and women living and doing business in our territories.” This mission guides its choices for the future and defines what motivates its teams in the pursuit of their day-to-day work, a conviction given concrete expression in the actions its carries out and officially recognized in October 2025 when the bank obtained the Engagé RSE label, Exemplary level, awarded by AFNOR Certification.
A full-service bank in its own right, BPAURA contributes to the development of the regional economy, distributing €5.6 billion in loans in 2025 (loans to both individual customers and businesses), with aggregate loan outstandings standing at a total of €35.4 billion. At December 31, 2025, BPAURA posted strong commercial and financial performance, with net banking income of €845.9 million, net income of €204.9 million, and €4.4 billion in shareholders’ equity.
Awarded ‘Great Place To Work®’ certification for the period May 2025 to May 2026, BPAURA, with its workforce of 3,200 employees, currently serves nearly 1 million clients throughout the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, and in the Hautes-Alpes, Alpes de Haute-Provence, and Corrèze départements. It maintains a presence across the region through a network of 322 branches, 278 physical retail outlets, nine agriculture and winegrowing branches, 21 Corporate branches, one Mountain Corporate branch, two Major Corporation branches, one Major Institutional Clients branch, nine Private Banking branches, and one e-branch.
Focused on responsibility and committed to addressing the key challenges of the day, BPAURA launched the Banque de la Transition Énergétique (BTE, or the ‘Bank of the Energy Transition’) in 2020, a financial institution entirely dedicated to supporting green savings and to funding energy and environmental transition projects in the region. Five years after its creation, BTE has raised savings from retail customers totaling €508 million. €814 million in loans have been granted to nearly 15,000 projects addressing renewable energy and energy efficiency renovation issues, spread across the bank’s 15 regional departements.
With more than 250 employees and one dedicated Corporate branch, BPAURA positions itself as a key partner for stakeholders in the mountain economy and for the people who live there, working closely with them to support their growth and transition efforts and ensure the sustainability of mountain life. Convinced of the essential role played by sport in maintaining and developing the economic and social vitality of local communities, BPAURA embarked on the adventure of the Olympic & Paralympic Games Paris 2024 as a Premium Partner. It continues this commitment today with the support of its Team of athletes, made up of 13 elite athletes.
The BPAURA Corporate Foundation, which was founded in 2020 to nurture the bank’s corporate purpose and its cooperative, community-focused values, plays its role to the full in this area. Since its creation, it has supported and funded more than 436 projects and general-interest initiatives in the region, providing €3.9 million across its four core areas of activity: culture, education, health, and social integration.
