Groupe BPCE ‘s ambition is to pursue a proactive approach to biodiversity. As biodiversity continues to decline at an unprecedented pace, we are structuring our action to support our clients and the territories in the face of the challenges of transitions.

A necessary collective mobilization

The Global Biodiversity Framework, adopted at COP15 in 2022, sets a clear ambition: to halt and reverse the curve of biodiversity loss by 2030, placing nature on a path to recovery. This framework calls for collective action across all countries, and society as a whole,  including businesses and financial institutions. In France, it is reflected in the National Biodiversity Strategy 2030.

An integrated and pragmatic approach

Our ambition, set out in our VISION 2030 strategic plan, is to make impact accessible to all and is based on three core pillars:

  • Action guided by scientific knowledge: we rely on recognized frameworks and knowledge to structure our action.
  • Action integrated across all our businesses: in each of our business lines, banking, insurance and investment, we are experimenting with new approaches and gradually integrating nature-related considerations.
  • Action as close as possible to needs: our cooperative model and the territorial anchoring of the Banques Populaires and the Caisses d’Epargne give us a unique ability to deliver solutions adapted to local specificities in an ever-changing environment.

Five levers structuring our action

We act on five complementary levers, with client advice and support systematically placed at the core of our approach:

  1. Placing nature-related issues at the highest level of our corporate governance ;
  2. Empowering each employee to take appropriate action in accordance with their professional activities and the specific needs of their customers ;
  3. Accompany our clients in the transition of their business models and developing a range of solutions and products tailored to the different types of clientele and in support of biodiversity ;
  4. Measure nature-related issues at different levels of the group to help guide our actions ;
  5. Integrating nature issues into our sustainable finance approach.

A mobilization anchored in the long-term

Acting for nature requires coordinated actions involving all stakeholders. This is why the group has joined a number of coalitions at both local and global levels, such as Act4nature International in 2024 to help foster the emergence of new collective initiatives addressing environmental challenges.
